Welcome, Introduction, and Lightening Talks (1 hour) Organizers will welcome attendees and introduce the goals of the workshop. Participants will then each be given a specified amount of time to share their research. The amount of time will be based on how many attendees are accepted.
Discussion about Key Challenges (1 hour) In small groups, attendees will discuss the following questions related to our proposed themes:
What challenges arise in improving theories and methods?
What barriers hinder achieving societal impact?
What obstacles surface in responding to an evolving technology landscape?
What tensions emerge when navigating pluralism?
After each question attendees will be asked to share the small group responses with the larger group.
Break (15 min)
Researcher Speed Networking Sessions (1 hour 15 min) Attendees will will engage in a series of 5-minute one on-one conversations with each other. In each conversation, attendees will be asked to briefly introduce themselves and answer a given question regarding their privacy research. Once the 5 minute period is complete, attendees will find a new person to speak with. This will encourage community-building.
Lunch (1 hour 30 min)
Panel (1 hour) A panel consisting of industry and academic privacy researchers will answer audience questions regarding the current state and future of privacy research. Panelists TBA
Break (15 min)
Discussion about Paths Forward (1 hour 15 min) In small groups, attendees will discuss the following questions:
How can we generate more generalizable privacy knowledge?
How can we produce research that makes a real world impact on policy and industry?
How can we keep up in our research with rapidly evolving technologies?
How can we take into account the plurality of privacy perspectives and experiences in our research?
Each group will be asked to write their answers on post-it notes and place them on the wall. Participants will then come back together into the larger group, and organize their answers into an affinity diagram. Based on the diagram themes, we will discuss actionable paths forward.
Closing Remarks (30 min) Organizers will provide closing remarks and opportunities for continued participation will be discussed.
